A family café · Westminster, London

Where Westminster stops for tea.

Royal Cafe Westminster is a small family coffee house of home baking and loose-leaf tea — a short walk from Westminster Abbey, overlooking the green of Vincent Square.

The House

Run by one family, for every family

Ours is a small house with a long habit: bread and cake baked before the doors open, tea brewed by the pot, and a table kept free for whoever walks in — pram, dog, grandparents and all.

Nothing here is complicated. It is simply the food and the welcome we would give at our own table, served in Westminster every day of the week.

A wooden café counter lined with cakes under glass domes and a brass till. A baker dusting a fresh Victoria sponge with icing sugar in the café kitchen at dawn.
From the kitchen

Baked at dawn, gone by teatime

Scones, Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle, warm sausage rolls and a loaf for the toast — everything comes out of our own ovens each morning, by hand, the way it always has.

Whatever is cooling on the rack when you arrive is the cake of the day. Ask and we will tell you what the morning brought.

A tray of warm, golden scones fresh from the oven on a floured wooden board. Home-baked cakes on cake stands — lemon drizzle and a tall Victoria sponge.
The room

A seat for every family

Room for the pram by the window, high chairs stacked by the counter, and a quiet corner with the morning papers. Stay for one cup or the whole afternoon — there is no hurry here.

It is the sort of café where the staff learn your order by the second visit, and keep your usual table warm.

Kind words

Loved by Westminster regulars

"We walked over after visiting the Abbey and ended up staying all afternoon. The scones were still warm and nobody minded the pram. Our little one's new favourite."

Hannah P.Pimlico

"My Sunday habit before the matinée. The roast is proper — real gravy, crisp potatoes — and the tea comes in a pot, not a paper cup. A rare thing near Westminster."

David L.Regular since 2019

"Found it by accident just off Vincent Square and now I bring every visitor. Kind staff, cake of the day never disappoints, and you can actually hear yourself talk."
